The Journey

From Mud to Mug

Ceramics cannot be rushed. Understanding the distinct phases of moisture loss and firing is crucial to a successful studio practice.

01

Wet Clay & Shaping

Whether on the wheel or at the slab roller, this is the active forming stage. The clay is highly malleable and requires structural care to prevent collapsing.

02

Trimming & Leather Hard

Once partially dried to a cheese-like consistency, pieces are trimmed to define bases, add handles, and carve away excess weight.

03

Bisque & Glaze Firing

Fully dry pieces are fired twice. The first firing solidifies the structure, preparing it to absorb liquid glazes before the final high-temperature kiln cycle.

Firing Schedule

Kilns are loaded weekly. Turnaround times vary depending on drying conditions and glaze requirements.

Studio Details & Preparation

What should I wear?

Clay is messy. Wear comfortable, older clothing and flat, closed-toe shoes. We recommend tying back long hair and keeping fingernails trimmed for wheel work.

Are materials included?

Yes, all standard stoneware clays, slips, glazes, and firing costs are included in the workshop fees. Specialized tools are provided for in-studio use.

Missed a class?

Due to the sequential nature of our workshops, make-up sessions are limited to open studio hours subject to availability.

Picking up fired work

We will notify you via email when pieces are unloaded from the final glaze firing. Unclaimed work is donated after thirty days.

Ready to work with your hands?

Spaces are strictly limited to ensure personal guidance. Review our schedule or reach out directly to secure a spot at the studio.
